Drew Blyth Barrymore was born February 22, 1975 in Culver City, California. She comes from the well-known family of Barrymore actors which include John Barrymore, her grandfather.
Drew Barrymore was just 11 months old when she made her debut in a commercial. As a child, she had several minor roles in films until she starred in the film E.T., "The Extra-Terrestrial". Barrymore did not handle her celebrity status well and felt outcasted from other children her age. She also had a very bad relationship with her mother, Jaid Barrymore. To this day, the mother and daughter are still not on good terms. This led to severe drug and alcohol abuse which led to her rehabilitation at the age of 14. After leaving drug rehab, Barrymore wrote an autobiography about her experiences called "Little Girl Lost", which was published in 1990.
She consequently received more adult roles which included emotional-disturbed characters or "bad girls". Through the early 1990s, Barrymore gained attention with wild stunts such as flashing her breasts while on the "Late Show" with David Letterman. She also appeared nude in Playboy during this year. Drew Barrymore also got attention for openly discussing her bisexuality in the media and was rumored to be having a relationship with Courtney Love. Her wild phase ended several years later and she began to create a more serious image for herself. She succeeded after her success in films like "The Wedding Singer".
In 1995, Barrymore founded a production company called "Flower Films" with Nancy Juvonen. The company's first production was 1999's "Never Been Kissed". "Flower Films" has also produced many other films, many becoming cult and mainstream hits like "Donnie Darko" and "Whip It". In 2007, Drew Barrymore was named the number one in People 's list of most beautiful people.
